Tuscaloosa Designers

Designers from all fields sharing their work and wisdom

1. American Institute of Graphic Arts
This is pretty much THE organization for designers to belong to. It's almost like our version of a union. They fight for designers on a political level. They've also got all kinds of official resources like contracts and industry standards...data and such. Definitely worth giving a few minutes to. I haven't become a member yet, but plan on it.

2. FreeLanceSwitch.com
If you haven't checked it out yet, do it now (...or whenever). It's a very helpful blog / resource with loads of valuable information for freelancers. Even those who haven't quite taken the entrepreneur plunge will find it interesting.

3. PSDTuts.com
A collection of photoshop tutorials for popular techniques ranging from simple text effects to crazy photo-manipulating madness.

4. ColourLovers.com
In their own words "COLOURlovers™ is a resource that monitors and influences color trends. COLOURlovers gives the people who use color - whether for ad campaigns, product design, or in architectural specification - a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, submit news and comments, and read color related articles and interviews." It's pretty cool.

5. AListApart.com
Great articles on design theory and practice with a focus on website design.

6. flickr
A great place to share photos, designs, or other imagery and become part of a community. They have tons of groups to join, some of which offer critiques. A well made website.

7. FromEurope
Inspirational interior and product design from Eruope.

8. Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce
Again, I'm not a member yet but I plan on becoming one. Through their site our local Chamber of Commerce offers relevant information for local businesses including job listings, events, and info on businessy stuff.

9. Smashing Magazine
Great inspirational resource for web and graphic designers.

10. The US Department of Labor
Are you being payed below the US average for your chosen profession? Find out what Uncle Sam says.
